Letter to E.E. Avissawella , Cutting of tree to prevent possible damage to Human Lives.

Executive Engineer, RDA, Avissawella. Dear Sir, Cutting of tree to prevent possible damage to Human Lives. The parents, teachers at St. John Bosco’s College & the villagers of Kaluaggala are deeply saddened due to not effecting the cutting of a massive tree located opposite Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Kaluaggala in close proximity to the bus halt towards Avissawella. By looking at the trunk of the tree, anybody can say that at any moment this tree might fall and damage human lives including school boys & girls who pass by this place often. There is a yellow line also to cross the road in close proximity. Several lines of Electricity power supply lines and telecommunication lines are there on top of the tree. Number of requests had been made to politicians, government officials & others to cut this tree to avoid possible damages if it is fallen. I can remember another tree of this type located near the former bus halt on the main road somewhere before two years and the traffic was totally stopped for about three years along the Colombo-Ratnapura Main road as a result. Even during that time, people around the area demanded the authorities to cut this tree but it did not happened. When I inquired the present position of this from your C.C. (as you were not there in office) Mr. Abeysinghe on last Friday (18th), I was informed that the order for the tree cutting has been issued to State Timber Corporation. Can you pl. do something to expedite this to avoid possible damages to human beings as well as property belong to state and individuals. Thanking you in anticipation, Kingsley Karunaratne. President-Rural Development society, Kaluaggala. Former President Avissawella Hewagam Korale East Multi Purpose Cooperative Society
